My research is focused on plant stress ecology. I have worked in a diverse set of ecosystems, including northern semi-arid grasslands, riparian woodlands, Rocky Mountain forests, peatlands, tropical montane cloud forests, paramo and Mediterranean oak forests.
I teach the following courses in the Department of Geography, at the University of Lethbridge: Introduction to Physical Geography (Geography 1000), Introduction to Geography (Geography 1010), Weather and Climate (Geography 2300), Fundamentals of Environmental Science (Environmental Science 2000), Microclimatology (Geography 3300), Soils (Geography 3080) and Biogeography (Geography 3090). I look forward to seeing you in class!
My field research is centred on plant physiological acclimation to environmental stressors in semi-arid ecosystems. I recently spent a year of study leave at CEFE-CNRS Montpellier (France), examining holm oak and boxwood in a Mediterranean forest. Over the past few months, I have been supervising a project examining global relationships between leaf traits and photosynthetic water-use efficiency. This summer, I am continuing my research in the natural ecosystems of southern Alberta and the sand hills of southern Saskatchewan. I also maintain an active interest in Andean montane cloud forest and paramo ecology.
In addition to these research and teaching activities, I am developing an international exchange program between the University of Lethbridge and Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico).
